Re: Power Chromatic
A quick update, I returned a hohner 260 in C last weekend to PC and fitted a Power comb and half valved while i was at it. The repeated As are no longer a problem, I'm already, as Brendan said, finding they work naturally in their own phrase. Tunes are slower than they were on Major cross but they'r...

Re: Power Chromatic
After a while you'll find it useful to have the options. When you're practicing a tune or lick, try both A notes. You'll find one of them will give a better flow/feel than the other. Choose it in that context. After some time you'll naturally go to that option when similar phrases occur. I'm findin...

Re: Power Chromatic
A could of weeks ago I retuned a G Pro master to 'G power chromatic' just as a taster rather than going the full hog on a SCX. It's the lure of getting one harmonica that with a home key of G that I can bend and will also play in keys of D, Em, Am, A and C. So far it's going good but I'm having trou...

Re: Quasi-Circular (modded Major Cross); RENAMED TO "CIRCULAR-PENCHROMATIC"
This is very similar to how I tune my diatonics, which I've call English tuning http://www.brendan-power.com/forum/view ... p?f=9&t=44
The main difference is mine start on a low G hole one blow.

Re: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I'm in the process of getting a new version of my 'English' tuned Seydel Sampler which I'll post on the other pages.
But yes waiting to see what Brendan has in store.

Re: The need for valves.
Ok I've got what the problem is now, I've been looking at my diatonics and not looked at how the chromatic is set out.
Thanks for the help, I'll persevere with it. Maybe I'm being too impatient.

Re: The need for valves.
Thanks for all the advice here, There's obviously something that goes on inside a chromatic that causes problems when you remove all the valves and they also seem to affect the volume. My Sampler is half valved already so what I'm going to do is replace the existing valves with ultrasuede ones like ...

The need for valves.
I kind of know this subject has been done ad nauseum but I need some answers before I start pulling valves off. This is my theory, a 10 hole diatonic has 2 reeds per chamber and generally doesn't have values other than to help bends in one way or another and the play perfectly fine. Chromatics have ...

Re: Alternative Major cross.
Having thought about it the ideal of having a paired set of harmonicas probably comes from me being primarily a whistle player for the last 10 years. With whistle we play G, Em, Am and D plus some others on the same instrument, all the notes are in the same place so doing the same with harmonica was...

Re: Alternative Major cross.
When I was playing Paddy richter tuning and needed that c# I tried to make a single 10 hole diatonic for both G and D that's when I found G Major cross and added the bottom 4 notes and I got the bent c# on hole 6 but found it difficult to get things smooth if jumping to that bend from nearby holes. ...
