Re: PowerBender versus PowerDraw

In regards to your second question: I think it is important to remember when analyzing a tuning, that every tuning is in some way a compromise. As much as one comes to enjoy a certain tuning, a different one may offer other advantages. Such as better note groupings or home key notes being bendable i...

Re: PowerBender versus PowerDraw

Agreed IanNerd! Regards to your first question FastFouier: Half- valving is one of Brendan's innovations and their are two major reasons for doing it. First: it allows a player to apply bends or actual vibrato, not tremolo, to blow notes. Second: it allows for draw bends on a chromatic ONLY WHEN the...

Re: Recent Live Videos and their Harmonicas

Don't make it to Denmark much but looks like a show I wish I could have been at! Love the details on the harps and tunings! Starting to think I might need to make myself a Paddy Solo harp! These performances bring to mind how impotant it is - at least for me - to create "finished products". Often ti...

Re: The Dingle Angle Tuning

Indeed, since I discovered your music and methods I have perhaps spent more money than I should filling my modest harp case with a cx-12, two scx-48s and a scx-56. And then there's the constantly rotating line-up of diatonics in most of the 12 keys AND your outstanding set of LUCKY 13's! I've put my...

Re: The Dingle Angle Tuning

Thank-you for the detailed response Brendan! I find the progression of your tunings fascinating. When I came across your playing and PB/PC tunings it was like I had discovered new instruments full of new sounds!! Very exhilerating!

The Dingle Angle Tuning

The first time I heard this song, I knew I had to learn it! So, being a PowerBender convert I grabbed my A harp and set out to learning this awesome tune! Parts of the melody proved to be rather tricky to execute on PowerBender, but definitely playable with a little practice. Then I was testing out ...

Re: The SlipSlider - a Revolutionary Blues Harp. It's Weird, but it Works!

That's exactly what I'm currently doing with my diatonics Sachlaw. Love PB tuning and love steel reeds! Brendan's tunings have gotten me pretty much off richter tuning and i didn't think i would ever use it again. BUT the Slip-Slider looks awesome! This might be the thing that makes richter tuning r...

Re: TUNE-A-DAY!

Wow, thanks for the explanation! I see now that you show this variation in the geek zone:)
that explains why, when i try to play along with jig jazz, my chording always sounds slightly off...haha!
definitely going to try this variation. Thanks Brendan!

Re: Power Chromatic

If you're just trying to decide if learning the tuning is worth your time, you might try purchasing Brendan's exclusively power chromatic album such as "back to back" or "swingfellas" Listen to his playing and think about whether or not you can accomplish the same sounds with the tunings you were us...
