Re: JOKER "superchromatic"
Some nice things about your version Edvin - especially the bends and bend enharmonics. In part of the scale it also reduces jumps. However, they are bigger in other parts. Considering the C scale, look at the big gap between the G and the next C above: 5 holes The obvious solution is to have your tu...

Re: JOKER "superchromatic"
Thanks for showing and demonstrating The Joker, Philippe! Here are a few queries, thoughts: It's an interesting looking instrument. Is is a commercial model you retuned, or did you get it specially made? Does it have a single reedplate with blow and draw reeds, or does it have blow reeds on one reed...

Re: How to get Extra, Deeper Bends on Harmonica
This is one version: a 40 reed double-diatonic, with slider. It's working well in lower keys but not in the top couple of holes in higher keys, because of Helmholtz Resonance Coupling issues due to the long chambers. I'm working on a way to shorten them, but there's a limit with this design that may...

Re: How to get Extra, Deeper Bends on Harmonica
UPDATE, for those interested in this topic: Whilst the two methods described in this thread (TurboSlide or Half-Flat Slide) give you extra deeper draw bends (or standard draw bends plus blow bends in the variation), I still want more! Specifically, to get standard draw bends, deeper draw bends, and ...

Re: OFF TOPIC - A New instrument!
Thanks Joshua, just saw this! I'm especially interested in any instrument that can bend notes, and have been inspired to try and advance the state of controllable note bending on harmonica by those which use it a lot - such as the dobro, erhu, and various Indian instruments. So I was fascinated to c...

Re: How to get Extra, Deeper Bends on Harmonica
This is digressing a bit from the main topic of this thread, but anyway... Pat, I was having a look at your Double Leading Tone tuning posted above: Blow: C# E G B Draw: D F# A C# It could be adapted to: Blow C E G B C E G B Draw D F# A C# D F# A C# Forgive my ignorance, but have you posted this tun...

Re: How to get Extra, Deeper Bends on Harmonica
Good question, Pat! In all the tunings above, the most the basic scale allows are draw bends of 1 semitone. It's nice to be able to optionally bend them to two semitones. In some cases it would be great to be able to lower them further, to three semitones - which is possible with HFS, except that th...

Re: How to get Extra, Deeper Bends on Harmonica
An interesting alternative approach to the Half-Flat Slide would be to flip it! That is, instead of lowering the slide-in blow reed and making the slide-in draw the same as the scale note, do the opposite: make the slide-in blow the same as the scale blow note, but lower the slide-in draw below it b...
