Re: Koch Powerbender

Yes, this is something I've done myself a few times. For the tip two holes I recommend swapping blow and draw reeds, otherwise tune with solder. Another option is to make a PowerBender mini-chromatic using two PB diatonics in my SwitchHarp. You'll need to do some tuning compensation in the high end,...

Re: Blow and Tell ;) Audio/video clips of Brendan's tunings IN USE!

Paris from memory, I think it was a PowerChromatic in A I used for Kitchenaire.

Thanks Gianandrea, sounding good!

Re: Power Chromatic

After a while you'll find it useful to have the options.

When you're practicing a tune or lick, try both A notes. You'll find one of them will give a better flow/feel than the other. Choose it in that context. After some time you'll naturally go to that option when similar phrases occur.

Re: Meisterklasse Chromatic 56

Thanks for the suggestion Anthony. I hadn't considered it because I assumed most buyers of the Meisterklasse would have bought it in large part for the metal comb. I imagine the corrosion you speak of could be sanded down? Can't promise anything, but I'll put it on the list of things to consider for...

TUNE-A-DAY!

Along with other more conventional New Year Resolutions (like losing weight, stopping drinking for January etc), I decided to upload a fresh music track to a dedicated Tune-a-Day page on my website every day. I think I have enough recorded tracks to last all of 2018; if not, I'll have to record new ...

Re: Quasi-Circular (modded Major Cross); RENAMED TO "CIRCULAR-PENCHROMATIC"

Just had a look at this. I think the reason you like the tuning is that it's already out there and proven to be good. From hole 3 upwards, this tuning is pure PowerChromatic. That's a tuning I devised in 1980 and have used ever since, including many recorded examples. The only deviation is in holes ...

Re: TWIN-CHROMATIC

Hi Triona, you make a good point about the easy modularity of the CX-12 version of the DoubleChrom: swapping in new comb units is very easy and quick. However the rest of it was very difficult and slow to make accurately. The new design has fairly fast changes of rear units (30 seconds instead of 5 ...

Re: TWIN-CHROMATIC

Thanks for the comments, Slava and Triona. Triona: The CX-12 version of the DoubleChrom has been superseded. I have moved to a new design that uses a single rear slider I make on my laser-cutter. It is easier to make overall and uses the double-screw attachment system of my TwinDiatonics for easy di...

Re: TWIN-CHROMATIC

Ah, the DoubleChrom - sorry! You're right, there are not a lot about. They're expensive and perhaps add more note options than most people want. Roni Eytan uses his Quartertone version quite a bit in groups with Middle Eastern musicians, and has developed a good method of controlling the sliders. He...

Modulation Added to the Mini PitchBender for DM48

In association with electronics expert Tim Jacobs, I developed an add-on accessory for the brilliant Lekholm DM48 MIDI harmonica. Called the Mini PitchBender, it's a small 4 way toggle unit that gives you controlled bending. There were 4 bends programmed in, but I found I wasn't using he up-bend at ...
