Re: Sets of modal tunings, especially for digital/midi chroms

You might like to do that with your many scale ideas also, rather than pay for analogue harps to be made.
Absolutely! I'm nearly ready to pull that trigger.

Re: Sets of modal tunings, especially for digital/midi chroms

I studied the database of over 25,000 songs at https://www.hooktheory.com/cheat-sheet/key-popularity and found this: By diatonic modes: Ionian 50.4% Aeolian 39.5% Dorian 3.8% Mixolydian 3.7% Phrygian 1.1% Lydian 1.1% Locrian 0.3% By parent major scale (includes all relative modes of each parent majo...

Sets of modal tunings, especially for digital/midi chroms

This discussion will be an extension of this: https://www.brendan-power.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=829#p3642 and this: https://www.brendan-power.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=845#p3752 Here I propose a set of tunings (two sets, actually) which are designed for digital/midi chromatic harmonicas (o...

Re: Spiral-DLT tuning (a working title)

Figures 5 and 6 in the posts above (Dorian and Mixolydian, respectively) place the a tonic at the 4 draw . The tuning in Figure 7a (below) also does this but for the Aeolian mode. Figure 7b (also below) shows how these three tunings can be reconsidered by instead placing their respective tonics at t...

Re: Spiral-DLT tuning (a working title)

The tuning in Figure 5 (several posts above) was optimised for Dorian play. This one (Figure 6, below) is optimized for Mixolydian play.

Re: 91% of Irish music with 2 harps and only 1 breath pattern!

Regarding the excellent questions and comments of Brendan and Edvin (above) .... No doubt that holes 8-10 look funny. As I said in the original post, "In all likelihood I will tinker with it a bit – especially in the top five holes". It's a bit of a stopgap; however, there is a method to the madness...

My favorite part is this Subject's title. You've got verve, Edvin!

91% of Irish music with 2 harps and only 1 breath pattern!

This Topic's title is audacious indeed! Surely, there are provisos. Yes, of course there are. Let's get started ... I begin by drawing on the “nine is fine” principle of George Kelischek . https://www.susato.com/collections/nine-is-fine If you don’t already know about George, look him up. https://yo...

Re: Keys of Irish songs

In his act the very talented Michael Davis would explain,
A comic says funny things,
but a comedian says things funny,
which makes me ...
