Re: Quick Q: What is Dm over Em?

Over two weeks of looking and asking around have transpired, and I have tentatively concluded that as a repeating set of three holes this tuning (including its transposions) is probably new. When I get a chance, I will try to make one by re-tuning an Easttop EDharmonica as per here: https://www.bren...

Re: QUESTION: Is diatonic solo tuned harmonica with recessed reedplates and 12 holes produced?

I have looked high and low for such an animal. To the best of my knowledge it does not (yet) exist. By the way, I "get" the desire for a lipped comb, a.k.a. recessed reed plate. My most comfortable-to-play harp is the Kongsheng Mars. The profile of its lip is nearly a half-circle; and the holes are ...

Re: QUESTION: How to use Inverted Bebop in a double-diatonic system?

Thanks, Edvin.

I am hoping to also hear from folks who are knowledgeable about jazz, blues, baroque, Latin, classical, South Asian, Slavic, East Asian ... you name it.

Ultimately, I would love to hear skilled performers playing those tunes.

Re: Quick Q: What is Dm over Em?

Consider these four different ways to achieve a minor hexatonic blues scale. Note the similarity between Repeating Richter and Repeating Paddy . Then note the similarity between Repeating Easy Third and Repeating Dmin Over Emin . When transposed, these bottom two tunings are identical except for the...

Re: Quick Q: What is Dm over Em?

Edvin -- Yes, it's a subset of many "wider" tunings.

More on this in a moment. Stay tuned ....

Re: Quick Q: What is Dm over Em?

This is the best I can find so far (transposed down by two semitones). The tuning in the question above would be the following scale in spiral form with the tonics in the blow layer. But I swear I have seen this in a harmonica context. Raga Suddha Bangala Scale steps in semitones: 2–1–2–2–2–3 Scale ...

Re: Shifted/Inverted Bebop tuning for non-slide AND SLIDE harps

This chart shows 24 variations of Inverted Bebop: 12 sharp-slide keys and 12 flat-slide keys. Each scale's tonics are shown in boldface and a slightly larger font size. Each major diatonic scale is accompanied by a repeating "extra note" which is two semitones lower than the tonic and is located dir...

Re: A family of new modded-Richter tunings

A US-based customizer pointed out to me that the tuning in the post above would be an exceedingly difficult re-tuning project. With that in mind, I offer the tuning below. What’s in it: 1) Full I and IV chords that are in-line with each other on the low end. 2) Three continuous octaves of G (the I c...
