Re: Slide guitar midi sound

Welcome to the forum Jens 👍 I have listened to a lot of slide guitar, lap steel, dobro, pedal steel, and related instruments. Like you, I love the soul and microtonal fluidity of a bar or bottleneck sliding over steel strings, and have tried to emulate that effect on harmonica - especially with the ...

Re: Introducing the Wedin Chromatic – folk music ornaments in many keys

"The proof of the pudding is in the eating". That old saying is particularly apt here, because it's all about what happens in the mouth! Theory is one thing, and practice another. I can certainly see the advantages of your new approach Edvin, logically speaking and from your impressively modulating ...

Re: Introducing the Wedin Chromatic – folk music ornaments in many keys

Edvin: what you say about Facebook resonates with me. I was very reluctant to sign up myself, and still feel conflicted about the platform in general. However, I was persuaded by a friend who is a guitar maker. He said it was very effective as a free promotional tool for his guitars, and urged me to...

Re: Introducing the Wedin Chromatic – folk music ornaments in many keys

The only issue I intuit with the Wedin Chromatic is that one of the main things you consider a strength, could in practice be tricky to play. I'm referring to the fact that there are lots of same-breath moves in the scales. Theoretically this is good: it gives a smoother transition between notes tha...

Re: Introducing the Wedin Chromatic – folk music ornaments in many keys

Thanks for the Phrase Maps Edvin - they are really helpful.

I suggest you should post your new info and diagrams to chromatic harmonica forums like Slidemeister and the various ones on Facebook. It will expose the Wedin Chromatic news to a wider range of people interested in this stuff :-)

Re: Introducing the Wedin Chromatic – folk music ornaments in many keys

Thanks Edvin! Your Wedin Chromatic is a really well thought-through tuning: based on logic, backed up by playing experience, and illustrated with good demo clips. I also like the fact it's truly original, not just an alteration of an existing scale (as most are). That's because it's using a differen...

Your musical examples are very persuasive, Edvin!

Looking forward to your later post on the technicalities :-)

Re: isomorphic harmonica?

I was trying to visualise the phrase maps for major scales from your diagram, Triona... OBSERVATIONS 1. All four positions have two slide pushes, but this can often be reduced to one if you use draw bend-enharmonics. 2. The major third is always on the same breath and slide position the tonic - that...

Re: isomorphic harmonica?

Yes, the lower one is the Augmented/Wholetone Tuning that skeldon is asking about. Gary Lehmann did an amusing video on it several years ago: https://youtu.be/t9Y682iZQ_E Although Augmented/Wholetone is theoretically an excellent tuning in terms of pure logic, in practical playing terms it's a bit c...

Re: isomorphic harmonica?

It's also known as Wholetone Tuning, because each hole with slide out starts a whole tone above the previous one. Yes, lots of good points, notably: 1. Only four blow-draw patterns to play in all 12 keys 2. The scale is compressed, so you get more range for a given number of holes However it's more ...
