Re: First position natural minor custom tuning.
I use that custom harp mostly for Irish folk, Canadian folk, American folk, rock and pop, but it is suitable for many other songs with more minor than major chords. It is a very intuitive way of playing minor songs since it is played exactly like a Richter major harmonica, but with minor at the exa...

Re: First position natural minor custom tuning.
Hi and welcome! :) I have never seen or heard about anyone actually tuning a harp like this, and I can't remember giving it any serious thought. (I HAVE heard of people tuning 6 draw of a LO harmonic in the OTHER direction though ;) ) The main reason, I think, is that I have been playing Paddy Richt...

Re: Shifting a tuning to fit a certain range (i.e. that of a fiddle)
Of course, but it is certainly one that is already existing. It is ready to use. And there is no need of inventing new tunings, retuning instruments or building new ones first. Just get one and play. And I did not either understand the doublings (repetitions / redundants) in your layout examples yo...

Re: Shifting a tuning to fit a certain range (i.e. that of a fiddle)
Thank you for the suggestion Triona! I have sometimes thought about slideless chromatics, but never tried one. Maybe it's time I did, if for nothing else to widen my horizons :) It is a distinctly different solution though. I'd like to discuss it further, but I'll do this in another thread when I've...

Re: Notation Software with Harmonica Plugins - Recommendations wanted
Thanks for sharing the tab. Did I get it allright, you marked the blows with a plus and left the draws unmarked? dear greetings triona Correct! The + is for blow, draws are unmarked. I made the file for a cooperative workshop I attended. Most attendants were blues players, and my research indicated...

I finally set up some server space! I was talking about the abc format, and this is an example of what I've used it for: (there is a pdf in the linked folder, ignore the other files if you want) https://cloud.fripost.org/s/S5MiLaeRXw3H9Cf It is produced by entering the code I posted above into an ab...

Re: Shifting a tuning to fit a certain range (i.e. that of a fiddle)
Having notes below the range of the fiddle does make sense so that you can get *below* the fiddle to accompany. I sometimes do this using a Low D. You absolutely have a point! In an ensemble it is often useful to have different ranges, to easier accommodate different voices. Harmonicas are often tu...

Re: Pentatonic tunings
For me both of the links work perfectly. The first links to a file that I download and play locally, and the second can be played in my browser.
It's interesting to hear the tunings in action! The double stops in the harmonic minor video work well with the genre!

Re: An easy, chord-enriching mod of a Lucky 13 PowerChromatic
Adding an extra note at the bottom of a PowerChromatic seems reasonable; the lack of a tonic chord always seemed a bit awkward to me. I wonder though: what "is" the Super-Circular tuning, really? Is it just a certain tuning starting on a certain note in the scale, or is there anything beneath? To me...

Re: PowerBender Versus EdHarmonica
I just started a new thread where I talk about shifting tunings. I have been thinking about it since before this thread, and I use another quite different tuning as an example, but much of what I write is relevant to this discussion, especially the paragraph in the second half comparing the shift to...
