PowerChromatic Demo Video with Tuning Diagrams

Like several others in the scene who develop specialist harmonica tunings and setups (eg. PT Gazell with his Gazell Method valves, or Tony Ayers with his Major Cross Tuning), I have a page on the Seydel website for a couple of my diatonic harp tunings: PowerBender and PowerDraw.

Now we’ve added a specialist chromatic harmonica tuning there: PowerChromatic. This is the tuning I’ve used since 1980 to play chromatic harmonica half-valved with universal draw-bends - slide in and out.

For those interested, here is a video with tuning diagrams demonstrating how it works:

More info and options here:

Many thanks to Seydel for giving freelancers like PT, Tony and me the chance to offer our ideas to a wider public. All the major harmonica companies have their good points, but none can beat Seydel for their accommodating, player-friendly approach.

Brendan, I've been using this version of your "C6/D6 tuning for some years now. I found your video full of good info, but I think you may have missed a couple of strong points of what I called the dorian chromatic tuning:
the four fat chords, used either as minor 7th or maj 6th(or 13th).
Try chording the vamp from Killer Joe(but start on D or Eb), or Tequila in D (D to C), or Moondance A- & D6) or the intro to There will Never be Another You (Eb,D,Db,C)
You mentioned your favorite keys as "D' and B-, well I play a lot of "Real Book" stuff, and the slide in keys are very friendly to a lot of those tunes Eb, C-, Ab, F-, Db, Bb-, The tuning also works well with some modulations that are typical of standards ( "Misty" and "This Masquerade" come to mind)
Both tunes modulate to the ii-V-1 in Ab, and then down a 1/2 step to ii-V-1 in 'G"-all can be played as big chords in this tuning.
Anyway this is my main axe, and when I can scrape up some $ (I've got two kids in college) I will once again will try a Seydal chrom.
Thanks for yet another gift to the harmonica world.

As far as I can remember Seydel's sales policy, they build the "harmonica of the month" when there are 20 orders until the deadline of the offer. In the case of this harmonica this is September 30th 2017. But it should be available further on as a "configurated" tuning. These cost 50 € more than the standard model whilst the special offer has the same prize as the standard tuning.

Good to hear from you Ed. Thanks for the extra strong points you mention - any examples? Would love to hear some of your work on PowerChromatic Tuning.

Usually the supply of spare parts and service after sale is good with Seydel harmonicas.
