Irish/Folk tuning

Post by Slava » Sun Dec 10, 2017 1:13 pm

Hi!
I have a question about irish/folk trills on harmonica. Brendan's Slide Diatonic have a layout where Slide in gives you next note of the scale: C draw- slide out ---> D draw slide in. So slide in note is HIGHER ONE STEP than basic note.

In seydel Irish deluxe model, there is layout where Slide in note is LOWER HALFSTEP than basic slide out note.

I heard Brendan's slide diatonic, it sounds great, and i didnt heard this seydel irish tuning, why is it so, did it sound good? Is lower halfstep is more authentic or whatever? why it is so diferent tunings for Irish/Folk music?

Both ways work Slava. Probably more Irish chrom players play reversed slide style, where the note goes down a semitone, known as the Eddie Clarke style after the man who pioneered it.

Ok, thanks
One more question, Brendan, in your Slide Diatonic, is there any reason why you dont change left G to E, and slide in note from A to F or F#? This could add draw bend on this 4th hole, like in your PowerChrom
