Thanks so much to Brendan and the other judges!

@Dan: For what it's worth, no fancy recording technology was used by me. I recorded all three of my videos on my iPhone, in the "selfie" mode. I did put a folded-up piece of paper over the screen because seeing me playing on the screen while trying to play was freaking me out. I then used Windows Movie Maker to add the captions, title, etc. Like you, on my video I didn't include a close-up of the harmonica -- though I did do that on my first two video submissions. I didn't do it on my James Cotton tribute video because it was done as a tribute, and I didn't think I should attach a product or brand name to the tribute video. The other two videos I didn't feel like had any conflict of interest and so I showed the harmonica better.

Thanks to Brendan and to all for the videos, very informative to get an idea what people can do with these harps. I'll be trying some of the techniques I see others using.

Thank you for this, Brendan, Roland, and David! It was a fun challenge, and there are some good players around. Congratulations to all of the winners!

Dan: I just viewed your videos and noticed yours had a similar process to mine. I used my laptop to record into iMovie to add the intro and ending text. I wish I had a fancier setup with microphones, camera, and lighting.

Thanks Brendan, David, and Roland!

I didn’t win, but it was a fun contest! My video was actually the first time I ever tried my Lucky 13s! Since then I’ve had a lot of time to play and practice on them, and I would have to say that you guys have created a fantastic instrument! I have a gig this weekend, and I can’t wait to try them out in front of an audience.

I’ll definitely be making more videos, and this time I’ll try not to have a big "Hohner" logo in the background! :D

Thanks,
Sean

Cheers to all who entered this good time competition! Lot's of impressive playing.
As one can tell by my first video...happy birthday with the chickadee...prob one of the worst versions of happy bday..
lots of fun tho, that video..puts a smile on ones face for sure:)
I was so excited to just get a vid out right when I got my 13 I didn't do too much practicing as you can see.
I love playing this harp and will continue to build my army of Lucky 13's. A big learning curve for me tho.
Thanks Brendan and Team
Cheers cheers!!

I've been travelling and it's been a few days since I checked in here. It's really heart-warming to read the enthusiastic posts about the competitition and the Lucky 13, and interesting to hear how you did your videos.

Wow, that iPhone must have a good selfie camera and mic Bill, because your footage and sound came over great. Likewise to you Boaz, Winslow and others, though honestly technical quality and whether the video was played solo were not criteria in the judging.

It was tough making the choices, and apologies to those who put a lot of effort in but didn't win a prize. We basically just went with our feelings of how a video came across, whether through excellent playing or simply putting a smile on our faces in other ways. Of course if it helped show off the positive aspects of the Lucky 13, esp. the extra low octave, that helped - as we made clear in the preamble.

The Lucky 13 is less than a year old, a unique new harmonica without a long history of recordings and clichéd licks, so players are still finding new ways to use that extra bottom octave. That was one of the most interesting things for me about the competition: seeing the variety of different ideas emerging after just a few months, in a range of styles.

Maybe we should come back next year and do it again, to see what's developed in the meantime. Or even make the Lucky 13 Competition an annual event. Will definitely keep that in mind :-)

Thanks again to everyone who entered, you all added something special.

To Winslow- ... Maybe you could have had some slick dancers and a big background of vocal singers too, all choreographed to match your dual bend magic ? :) . For Me, well, I played with my guitar at the same time, which is really not like exactly playing "with" someone else, but its like playing with another part of my brain while the other is trying to make harmonica noises while the other is fumbling with bass lines and chords on the guitar and made up lyrics. Unfortunately due to time constraints as well, you can't see me playing the guitar in the video that was selected. On my third video (first position explorations) I had a better camera angle and you can see the guitar and harmonica both. It was a fun adventure. Peace and harmonica-vergance to all :D

Hi Brendan, Roland, and David,

Just wanted to let you know I received my prize, safe and sound. Thanks again so much! I am looking forward to giving each of these '13's a proper workout.

I'm trying to convince a superb guitarist/singer to compete in the Long Island Blues Society's qualifying event for the Memphis International Blues Challenge. If we compete as an acoustic blues duo, I'll be using the L13's almost exclusively.
