Power Chromatic in non-slider harps?

Post by IaNerd » Wed Dec 06, 2017 10:32 pm

It seems to me that Power Chromatic tuning is widely but incorrectly regarded as being useful solely in slide harps. In other words, it seems like PC's fitness as a tuning for "standard" 10-hole, 20-reed harps is vastly underestimated. Why is it NOT sold as a standard configuration? Why is it NOT on Seydel's Configurator menu? For melodic play, I think it has formidable advantages over Solo and Orchestra S tunings. Props to Gary Lehmann for ably demonstring PC on "diatonic" harps.

I think you make an excellent point! Perhaps the only thing that makes PC tuning more suitable with sliders are the bend enharmonics that are available. But other than that, I can't see why not use the tuning in a 10-hole harp.

It is up to you to suggest this to Seydel.
Maybe they might add it.

I've recently retuned a couple of Lucky 13 harps to Power Chromatic. With half-valving it's a really nice combination for tunes which are more harmonically complex but where you still want to retain that funky diatonic tone.

Playing them on a gig tomorrow. Will post a recording or video soon.

Brendan: Are notes in channels 1-3 repeated in 4-6?
