Unvalved vs Valved Draw Vibrato/Tremolo
I made this video comparing draw vibrato between an unvalved and valved Trochilus harmonica. Aside from note bending, the rich quality of draw vibrato on an unvalved harmonica is one of the reasons I became a 'half-valver" years ago. I feel like the reed interaction adds a rich and expressive q...

Re: Turbo-slide for sax-like vibrato demo
Chat GPT suggested I might try electroplating to magnetize the reeds. Said I could use a brush that had a custom tip to get the right size diameter.
Maybe that would work.

Re: Turbo-slide for sax-like vibrato demo
Thanks Brendan! Hope all is well. I sent Jim an email with the links, but I haven't heard back from him yet. I would love to have a Turbo-slide on a half-valved or un-valved chromatic in Power Chromatic tuning. I'm thinking about how I might modify a Troiculus harmonica to do so. I'm wondering if I ...

Here's a 2nd non-musical demo of turbo-slide vibrato on blow holes 1-10 and 2 draw fully bent.

Turbo-slide for sax-like vibrato demo
So I finally got around to testing the concept of using the turbo-slide to add vibrato to the blow notes and I think it works very nicely. I'll have to try doing the same with valves as you do Brendan and compare between the two. In the past I tried using the turbo-slide to shift the pitch a semiton...

Turbo-slide for sax like vibrato?
Here's an idea you can test. Could a turbo-slide be used for sax like vibrato on blow notes. Sax vibrato is done by slightly dropping the jaw and returning to the normal embouchure in rapid succession. Doing this creates a very slight change in pitch. I thought that if a turbo slide were adjusted to...

Re: Fully valves vs half valved survey
Yes, many variables so it's hard to know if it was the harmonica they preferred, the player or the engineering. This is David Naditch's version of lady be good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2s-WvmHeXUw An ideal survey would be someone like you playing both types of harmonicas under identical cond...

I didn't share all twelve comments on the half-valved vs fully valved. Here's all 12.

Fully valves vs half valved survey
I made a small survey of non-harmonica musicians to determine which harmonica they liked the best. It's a very hard thing to measure due to different players, different tempos, different engineers, etc. Here's the bar graph and the survey comments. Many of the commenters had the same opinion as my o...
