Re: A family of new modded-Richter tunings

IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS: In the diagrams above, the blue squiggly line shows just one of many routes up and down the minor hexatonic blues scale (in these cases, in the "band key" of G). But wait a second! A song with a I -- IV -- V progression may contain melodic lines that follow three blues scales, i....

Re: Any news?

I'm also wondering if the Yonberg harps already have a plate-securing mechanism which could be recast into a modular form.

Re: Any news?

What if the reed blocks were slightly wedge-shaped, and slid into a slot with a gasket on the comb side? This picture shows a very exaggerated sense of the shape I envision.

Re: A family of new modded-Richter tunings

Regarding this family of tunings, I recently received some feedback and questions from a noted harp customizer. This was my response: This family of harp tunings is not geared to play major diatonic scales. Rather, it is intended for playing minor hexatonic blues scales. Following the meandering blu...

Re: Any news?

Re: modular-reed harmonicas In the near past I spent crazy amounts of money using Seydel's Configurator to try out alternate tunings. More recently I have been trying, whenever practicable, to buy cheap Chinese harps on Amazon and then re-tune them. So for an alternate-tuning geek like me, the prosp...

The re-tuning recipe for a 10-hole harmonica that is shown in the September 12 post above requires some fairly drastic changes to some of the reeds. The following three recipes are more practical.

Music theory slide rule

I just received this yesterday. I've tried the circular kinds but I like this linear layout much better. Made of thick, sturdy plastic. 2-sided with tons of information. Dead simple to use. Wish I had this years ago.

Re: A family of new modded-Richter tunings

Sometimes evolution involves simplification rather than elaboration (think: lizards --> snakes). In that fashion, we take the 6-chord tuning from above and reduce it to the most essential four chords: I -- IV -- V -- vi. Getting there by re-tuning a Richter Lucky 13 entails re-tuning two additional ...
