Re: Comparison Lucky 13 to Seydel Solist Pro 12 Steel - Low Octave
Middle C is the C4 depicted on the layout sheet, and is Hole 1 on a regular C-harp and is also the C in the fourth hole (however it may be numbered) on both the Lucky 13 and the Solist Pro. The Solist Pro is available on both solo tuning and in the same tuning as the Lucky 13, in two versions of C (...

Re: How would you retune an Asia Bend?
I'm very tempted to tune the X-reeds lower to widen the bending range. One change to solo tuning that I used on some of my chromatics is to change the leftmost double C down to an A. That way I have a blow A and Bb, and I also have an A minor chord as well as a C major chord. Are there any plans to ...

Re: Lipped comb & Hemholtz Resonance
By "slot," do you mean the chamber in the comb (as opposed to slot in the reedplate)? My experience with long, narrow chambers is that it makes the pitch problem worse. Both the Suzuki SCT-128 tremolo chromatic and the Hohner Harmonetta place one reed behind another in a long, narrow chamber, and bo...

Re: OVERBLOWING - Where to From Here?
One way you can bend up using standard techniques is to start with a bent note and release the pitch upwards. If your starting bend is a note that makes sense, this approach can work well. Listen to Mick Jagger on Midnight Rambler. Not exactly a paragon of technical finesse, but he makes this simple...

Re: Lucky 13 International Video Competition
FWIW I just improvised into Quicktime on my laptop - not a "great" recording setup, just what was easy to do quickly. I thought about coming up with an elaborate accompaniment arrangement but didn't have time. For my second entry, though, I did re-use a guitar part from another project. Lucky 13 com...

Re: Old style 280s
Only if they're both of the wood comb vintage. The Chromonika III and the 280 are the same harp - *if* the vintage matches. Both switched to plastic combs and to cross tuning at the same time.

Re: HAPPY ACCIDENTS: the Law of Unintended (Good) Consequences
A major collector such as Harland Crain might know if such a single-reedplate blow-draw harp was made in the 19th century. There were all-blow chord harps that were basically a reedplate with a ribbed wooden shell covering the side that had the reeds. A few of these still exist, and the reedplates s...

Re: HAPPY ACCIDENTS: the Law of Unintended (Good) Consequences
So-called Richter tuning has a more twisted history - or lack thereof - than the standard accounts relate. The note layout for the middle and upper octaves shows up on button accordions as early as 1835, while the lower octave on harmonicas bearing the Richter name differed from the current layout a...
