Modular Reed mini shruti box?

Brendan-- I would guess that you are familiar with shruti boxes. I have used mine for droning in tradition Irish music sessions. Your Modular Reed Harmonica system has me thinking about a mini Shruti box or mini bagpipe that takes Modular Reeds.

As I guess you know, Shruti boxes (like Indian harmoniums) already have modular single reeds! They were part of the inspiration for the Modular-Reed Harmonica.

So you're thinking of a mini version?

Vaguely, but yes.

Drone notes might well comprise half of a harp's reeds. OR there could be some small device that could play a truly uninterrupted drone note (a la the D drone of uilleann pipes) while that person is also playing harmonica.

A battery-powered digital unit would be easy to make, but that would rub analoggers the wrong way.

Of course, a stud like Pat Missin can play drone tunes on a standard harp: https://www.patmissin.com/uncommon/uncommon12.html

I play my Modular Harp from the beginning with a drone tuning. It is working very well. And it is the main purpose I am using it for beside experimentation with new tunings.

I will work out the layout one of the next daxs and show it here.

I really can not recommend to treat a shrutibox with a coarse file like that. And neither I would recommend to do this after a vague examination of the reason of the buzzing like this, by pure guessing where the buzzing might come from. At least I would not mistreat my shrutibox this way.

And the repair finished? He made the pitch higher. And he did not even consider to check it and retune it properly again. I do not consider this video a good instruction to repair a shrutibox.

You're absolutely right Triona! I found it disturbing too, but it was the best display of the individual reeds in a Shruti Box that I could find.

Looking forward to seeing your special drone tuning!
