Is it just me or do reels just want to make you play faster? So far I’ve learned Crowley’s reel, and although I don’t claim to play anything very well yet, it seems to want to be played faster. Now I’ve added the Kerry reel into my playing and again I feel like the tune wants me to go faster! The Kerry reel also feels more advanced than Crowley’s like I’m actually playing a grown up tune. I’m curious as to what speed advanced players like to play these reels in??

Reels can sound nice played slowly, but if you want to play with others in a session you need to be capable of playing them fast as well, as that is the norm.
