Forum Members,
I have devised a magnetic 2 harmonica rack for switching harps while playing the guitar. I am considering buying 2 of Brendan's twelve hole solo tuned diatonics :) , Key of D and G for playing Irish and American fiddle tunes. Can anyone tell me 1. The total length of these harps, inches or mm. and 2. If the cover plates are of a magnetic ferrous metal or of a non ferrous metal, i.e. aluminum. Please test them with a magnet if you are not sure. The same questions apply to the Paddy Richter tuned 10 hole harps.
Thank you,
Ray Major

That sounds like a nice project!

As far as I know Brendan doesn't sell any 12 hole diatonics at the moment, unless you count the slide diatonics (which are really diatonically tuned chromatics which might not be suited to use in a rack)

Are you by any chance referring to the Lucky 13? Unfortunately I don't own any myself which I could measure.

Welcome to the forum!

Thank you Edvin,
The reason I am considering the slide diatonic is that I sometimes play with the harp in hand, sometimes in the rack. I realize that the slide feature could not be used in the rack. The twelve hole slide harp might be too large. It is likely that the Padddy Richter harp would fit, but have a smaller tonal range than the 12 hold harps. Even so, I am trying to determine if it would fit in the rack. Also since my harp rack is magnetic, I need to determine if the cover plates are will stick to the magnetic strip on the harp rack. Do you know if the cover plates on Brendan's other harps would work with magnets. Currently, I am playing in this two harp rack using two Richter tuned Golden Melodies. They work on many tunes, but the solo tuned and the Paddy Richter tuning would expand the possibilities. Is the Lucky 12 in Richter tuning or solo tuning? Thanks for your response. Ray Major

Check Brendan’s site for Lucky 13 tunings. There are quite a few.
As far as steel cover plates goes, I’m not sure, but I believe they are chromed brass.
