Lucky 13 - Best harp I've played!

Post by Dylan Campbell » Wed Oct 02, 2019 7:59 pm

Just got my Lucky 13F in the mail today. I absolutely love this thing! There wasn't a single hole that was stuck and the heft and finish of the harp is just awesome! That bottom end adds so much to the playing possibilities! My only dilemma is that I bought the standard version with the specific purpose of retuning the 3 hole (6th hole on the lucky 13) to Paddy Richter and leaving the bottom end alone so I have the big fat chords on the bottom (without changing the IV chord to a 6) and then the more melodic Paddy Richter tuning up top. But man it plays so sweet I'm worried about messing up the harp even though I've retuned several Special 20's to Paddy Richter already! I may end up with a whole set of these!

Update: I returned the high 3 blow to make the top Paddy Richter and it’s awesome! Fat chords on the bottom and clean melody up top!

Thanks for sharing your Lucky 13 feedback, Dylan. Comments like these make all the struggle with developing new harps and parts worthwhile :-)

I am still impressed with mine after quite a bit of playing time on my PowerChro G, D and C (retuned). I will be looking to get Gnarly to tune one down to A for me soon. I would get a full set of keys, if they were available.

I guess the fact that these are playable chromatically makes most people think that 2 different keys are sufficient. This might keep sales down, and stock keeping becomes uneconomic. But they are retunable anyway. And maybe there will come a solution soon with a kind of "self-configurable" harps.

Do the power chromatics start as low as the Richter or paddy Richter Lucky 13s, or are they an octave higher?

Sorry for the incorrect date. Roland, our China partner who does the posting of the Lucky 13 from Shanghai, has been travelling in the USA during the Chinese New Year holiday period, returning home soon. However we now have the complication of the coronavirus issue, with authorities in China ordering workers to stay at home till Monday 3rd Feb. I'm unsure how this will affect posting right now, will update you when we hear from Roland.
