Half-Valved Chromatics

I was wondering if I could ask some incredibly basic questions about the half-valved chromatic? I understand half-valving when it comes to diatonics, but can't seem to get my head around how it works on a chromatic. Which valves do you remove? And, how does that affect the air-tightness of the harmonica? I was thinking it would be nice to try half-valving one of my chromatics so I could get a bit more of that bluesky expressiveness, but I don't want to get it wrong!
