LUCKY 13 INTERNATIONAL VIDEO COMPETITION PRIZES ANNOUNCED!

Thanks to all entrants in the competition – 66 videos in all! It was tough deciding the prize winnners, but after much conferring we judges have reached agreement.

NOTES
1. Several contestants took the opportunity to send more than one video, but in the case where they won a prize we have chosen the video of theirs that we liked the best.
2. We couldn’t decide on the 4th – 10th places, so we added three extra prizes! That makes a total of Lucky 13 prizes altogether
3. The 4th - 13th places are listed in no special order. They all have great things about them, and all prizes are the same.

Thanks Brendan and the Lucky 13 team. Congrats to all the winners and everyone who submitted! I'm enjoying watching the other videos and catching up. What a great contest and fun way to promote this cool new harmonica. I'm honored to have placed with so many awesome and talented submissions.

Interesting. Every winner had a great recording setup. And not a single one of them was playing with others. And every one was filmed as if it were a Lucky 13 commercial.

It will read like sour grapes, but I had nothing but a phone or camera to take the videos with and every one of my submissions was about what I really like my Lucky 13 for: playing with others! I use the bass mostly for rhythm and harmony support when others solo, and play melody - sometimes their bass thrown in - when I solo. Or play melody alongside the vocalist. I didn't even include a good shot of my harp - I simply played.

Obviously I had the wrong idea. I'll know better if this contest is ever repeated. Until then, I'll continue to jam and gig with other musicians.

By they way, my choice of winners from among these would have numbers 1 and 2 down and some others in their place.

FWIW I just improvised into Quicktime on my laptop - not a "great" recording setup, just what was easy to do quickly. I thought about coming up with an elaborate accompaniment arrangement but didn't have time. For my second entry, though, I did re-use a guitar part from another project.

Lucky 13 commercial? Well, I did try to show off its unique qualities. But if I were really making a commercial I would have tuned the octaves and done some reed setup, memorized a script, maybe dressed nicer and used a better backdrop and lighting, used a condensor mic with a good D/A converter and recording plugins, etc.

Thanks to Brendan and team. It was a fun experience. I just used my inexpensive desktop webcam and microsoft free recording program, so nothing fancy here. Just followed the rules.
