Chord Harmonicas

Now I am having fun discovering the possibilites of the Hohner 48 Chord harmonica.

Oh, I have one too since recently. Just not yet played very much on it.

For learning I can recommend this tutorial in 16 lectures:
Al Smith, Chord Solos for the 48 Chord Harmonica;
1989, Richfield Township, OH / Washington, DC, no ISBN known
Mine came with a CD, but this seems to be a home copy.

It seems to be only available antiquarianly / second hand.

This is a German website. But the seller is an american shop. I could not find their direct url. Maybe you can find it yourself, or maybe any other shop in the US.

Btw:
I have some more fine chord harmonicas beside the Hohner 48/384.
As there were
Suzuki SSCH-56 Chord (chromatic),
Easttop Mini Chord (similar to Tombo Pocket Chord, in fact a modified copy of the Tombo, diatonic),
Hohner Vineta No.4 (diatonic with Bass, several different major and minor keys).
If there is any interest in this, I can add some more reviews about them here every now and then.

I’d like to know how you are progressing on the Suzuki SSCH-56.

Oh, that's really a dark chapter of my GAS.
When I tried it first at the Frankfurt International Music Fair 2016 I was really intrigued by it. Then it took 1 and 1/2 year till I eventually could purchase one. But then I found out that I could not really learn it to play just intuitively like I expected this from the faded rememberance of the testing at the fair. So it is lying around here more than it is played.

But as for I cannot endure that such a fine harmonica - and really expensive was it too - is just lying around not played, I recently started to make it accessable to me from the theoretical aspect. So I started to work out and compare closely the layout of the notes and chords. And also I need to study and eventually understand the respective harmonics better. At least I shall not give up just like that. I think I shall get it sooner or later.

I can report here when there is any progress. Do you have one too?


What I had forgotten in my list of chord harmonicas above is the Hohner Chordomonica II. It is a diatonic with 2 slides. It enables extended possibilities of playing chords compared to any other diatonic or chromatic harmonica. And it is easily to play intuitively for any fairly skilled player of conventional diatonics or chromatics. When I had got my first one some years ago, I had no problems to play it short after I had started with it.
